This Privacy Policy explains how NextIQTech LLC ("LostAndFoundSite", "we", "us") collects, uses and protects personal information when you use lostandfoundsite.net and the Lost Item Reporting Service at travel.lostandfoundsite.net (together, the "Service").
1. Official location portals
When you select a location that is part of the Official Lost Recovery Network℠, you are sent to that organization's official lost and found portal (for example, a web address ending in .lostandfoundsite.net). Information you submit there is used by that organization to handle your report, and the organization's own privacy notice applies to it. We provide the technology that runs those portals on the organization's behalf.
2. Information we collect
When you search for a location
- The industry you select and the text you type into the search box.
- Technical information such as your IP address, browser type, pages viewed and the date and time of your visit, recorded in server logs for security and troubleshooting.
When you submit a lost item report through our Lost Item Reporting Service
- Contact details: your name, email address, phone number and mailing or shipping address.
- Trip details: where and when the item was lost, such as the location, dates, flight, cabin or room number.
- A description of the lost item, and any photos or documents you choose to provide.
- Payment information for the Lost Item Reporting Fee (see section 4).
- Your communications with us about the report.
Please do not include sensitive information that is not needed to find your item, such as full payment card numbers, passport numbers or health information, in item descriptions or messages.
3. How we use your information
- To provide the location search and direct you to the correct lost and found portal.
- To prepare and file your lost item report with the relevant organization on your behalf.
- To communicate with you about your report, including updates from the organization.
- To process the Lost Item Reporting Fee and keep records required for accounting and tax purposes.
- To secure the Service, prevent fraud and misuse, and comply with legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information and we do not use it for targeted advertising.
4. How the Lost Item Reporting Fee is processed
The Lost Item Reporting Fee (currently $) is paid through [PAYMENT PROCESSOR NAME], a third-party payment processor that complies with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS). Your full payment card details are entered directly with the processor and are not stored on our servers. We receive only limited information, such as the payment amount, date, status and the last four digits of the card, to confirm your payment.
5. How lost item reports are handled
To provide the Service, we share the details of your report with the organization where you believe the item was lost, such as an airport, airline, hotel, cruise line, campus, transportation operator or venue. That organization uses the information to search for your item and to contact you or us about it, and handles it under its own privacy practices. We only share the information needed for that purpose.
6. Service providers
We use service providers that process information on our behalf under contracts that restrict its use:
- [HOSTING PROVIDER] for website hosting;
- a content delivery and security provider to protect the Service against attacks and abuse;
- [PAYMENT PROCESSOR NAME] for payment processing;
- [EMAIL SERVICE PROVIDER] for sending emails about your report.
We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect the rights and safety of our users or others, or in connection with a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, in which case this policy continues to apply.
7. How long we keep your information
- Lost item reports and related communications: for as long as needed to handle your report and for up to [REPORT RETENTION PERIOD, e.g. 24 months] after it is closed, unless you ask us to delete them sooner or a longer period is required by law.
- Payment and transaction records: for the period required by tax and accounting laws.
- Server logs: up to 30 days.
8. Cookies
The Service uses only cookies and similar technologies that are strictly necessary for it to work and to keep it secure, for example to protect against automated abuse. We do not currently use analytics or advertising cookies. If we introduce them in the future, we will ask for your consent where the law requires it and update this policy first.
9. International transfers
We are based in the United States. If you use the Service from another country, or your report concerns a location abroad, your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States and in the country where the organization holding your item is located. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
10. Your privacy rights
EEA, UK and Switzerland (GDPR)
We process your information to perform our service to you (filing your report), on the basis of our legitimate interests in operating a secure service, and to comply with legal obligations. You have the right to access, correct or delete your personal information, to restrict or object to its processing, to receive a portable copy, and to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
California and other US states (CCPA and similar laws)
You may have the right to know what personal information we collect, use and disclose; to request its deletion or correction; and to opt out of its sale or sharing for targeted advertising (we do not do either). We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights. You may use an authorized agent to make a request on your behalf.
How to make a request
Email support@lostandfoundsite.net with the subject "Privacy request". We will verify your request and respond within the time required by law (generally one month under GDPR and 45 days under US state laws). If we decline, you may appeal by replying to our response.
11. Children
The Service is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. A parent or guardian may submit a report on a child's behalf.
12. Security
We use encrypted connections (HTTPS), access controls and reputable service providers to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information and review our safeguards regularly.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the new version on this page and change the effective date above.
